Why does my tracking show “Delivered to a local Post Office or Pickup Shop” when I expected home delivery?

Why your parcel may be at a local Post Office or pickup shop, and how to collect it.

Both Royal Mail and DPD may redirect your parcel to a local collection point instead of attempting home delivery. This can happen for several reasons:

1. Recipient Not Available

  • If no one was available to receive the parcel, the courier may deliver it to the nearest Post Office (Royal Mail) or Pickup Shop (DPD) for collection.

2. Parcel Size or Signature Required

  • If the parcel is too large for your letterbox, or requires a signature/ID check, it may be redirected to a collection point.

3. Service Type Selected

  • Some delivery options (e.g. Royal Mail Local Collect or DPD Pickup) are designed to deliver directly to a Post Office or Pickup Shop.

4. Delivery Route Adjustments

  • Couriers sometimes redirect parcels due to local operational issues, such as staffing, access restrictions, or route changes.

📦 Next steps:

  • You should receive a notification card, text, or email with details of the collection point.

  • Bring valid photo ID when collecting your parcel.

  • If you cannot collect the parcel, please contact Royal Mail or DPD directly, or reach out to our support team for assistance.
